The special feature of our travel draw, and the source of its popularity, is that in addition to a chance to win one of the 100 prizes, ticket holders directly contribute to the enhancement of health care provided in the area served by the CIUSSS de l’Estrie - CHUS. The profits made are shared among the activity’s 10 partner foundations to finance the acquisition of equipment, directly proposed by personnel, of a unitary value of less than $5 000.
“We are really pleased with the concept of a travel draw because it’s concrete and pleases people on both sides. On one hand, 100 lucky people win a prize; on the other, people in our hospitals’ multiple services and departments see that their acquisition requests are being responded to. And the purchases are made promptly, often in just a few weeks,” stated the CHUS Foundation’s Executive Director, Martin Clermont.
The selected projects have one of two aims: improving the quality of life of patients, families, or personnel; or enhancing medical equipment. They range from a new positioning seat for women undergoing a mammogram, a television for an oncology patient waiting room, leaded protection equipment, or small devices that extend the mobility of a treatment team. It depends upon the needs raised by teams on the ground as they are the ones submitting the requests.
For 2022, the CHUS Foundation’s share is $151,886. These funds will be invested in projects proposed by and for the Fleurimont and Hôtel-Dieu de Sherbrooke hospitals.
In terms of prizes, there are 100, at a total value of $80,000. Among these, 37 are instant prizes, earning winners prizes of $50 to $1,000 by scratching a box on the ticket. The other 63 prizes are drawn for, with one drawing session per month from January to June. These lots include 12 travel vouchers of $2,000 each (or $1,500 cash) and cash prizes from $250 to $10,000.
For a chance to win, people must obviously have a ticket. Tickets are on sale annually, from October to mid-January, at a cost of $104 each. Tickets may be bought online, via the CHUS Foundation’s website, or from salespeople working in the various hospitals. CIUSSSE-CHUS employees have the options of full payment or making 26 equal payments of $4 taken directly from their pay.
